Sonic Generations Demo Review

About 20 days ago, Sega released a timed demo of their new creation: Sonic Generations. Teaser clips had been swirling through the web weeks prior to the demo showcasing game play between the classic 1990's 2D Sonic, and the next generation 3D Sonic. Apparently, something has opened time warps pushing Sonic back in time. Both the old and new Sonic must come together to defeat this evil force!

The demo was timed to expire after 20 days. The number 20 chosen probably due to it also being Sonic's 20th anniversary. The demo allowed for you to play as Classic Sonic through one stage of the iconic Green Hill Zone from Sonic 1.

If you haven't played Sonic 4 yet, this game will give your brain that good ole' nostalgia feeling of a simpler time not too long ago...20 years to be exact! A very noticeable difference compared to the previously released Sonic 4 is that the speed of the game is much quicker. If you recall Sonic 4, the movements are slightly delayed and the speed isn't well..speedy. This was a major complaint of gamers that Sega seemingly took to heart and aimed to fix. The graphics and color display of the level is magnificent. The game play and controls aren't difficult at all, despite the rapid speed of Sonic.

Classic Sonic stays true to its roots as far as his lack of certain moves such as the homing dash or the double jump quick shield. The spin dash is included and supercharged for high speeds. And for you Tails, Knuckles, Rouge, Silver and Shadow fans, sorry, Sonic goes solo in this one. (Since, he's the only one that's really changed in appearance in the last 20 years).

I think that this game will do what Sonic 4 couldn't do, which is give Sonic fans and gamers that old school 2D thrill with some new school 3D attitude. They want speed, they will be in for a treat! Just wait until they play modern Sonic's quest!

Sonic Generations is scheduled to release November 1st, 2011 for the X-Box 360 and the Playstation 3. Pre-sales for the game can be found at Gamestop's website.

Happy Speeding
